Reach Environmental is a specialist environmental consultacy founded by Richard Oldham, the company's director.

Director'S Profile
Richard is an experienced environmental consultant, with more than 16 years' experience in the environmental and corporate sectors, and holds a Masters of Environmental Management. Richard has managed and delivered environmental, tenure and development approvals, including environmental impact statements, for multi-billion dollar resource projects, and exploration projects, in the coal, coal seam gas (CSG) and minerals sectors. He has strong project management skills, attention to detail and extensive regulatory experience. He has managed teams of specialist and support staff, including a network of experienced, well respected specialists in various environmental and social disciplines. He has a detailed knowledge of impact assessments for all environmental and social disciplines.
Richard has managed, prepared and obtained environmental impact statements, State environmental authorities and planning consnets, and Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act approvals for mining projects (coal and minerals), petroleum projects (CSG) and exploration projects (coal, minerals and CSG).
Richard is client focused, providing strategic advice and due diligence on environmental, approvals and land access risks, with a thorough understanding of regulators’ expectations. He has acted as project manager, principal client contact and consulted with regulators. He understands corporate strategy, investment, financial and planning requirements through his chartered accountancy background.
Project Experience
Approvals managment for Aurelia Metals Ltd’s Federation Project – a metalliferous underground mine in western NSW, mining approximately 7 Mt of ore. Approvals Advisor for Bowen Coking Coal Ltd – legacy coking coal brownfield site and greenfield site expansion in Central Queensland, mining approximately 2 Mtpa. Project environmental impact statement (EIS) management, and State and Commonwealth environmental approvals (mining leases, environmental authority, EPBC Act Referral) for Stanmore Resources' Isaac Downs Project - an open cut coal mine producing approximately 3 Mtpa. Project EIS management, and State and Commonwealth environmental approvals for Gulf Alumina Ltd’s Skardon River Bauxite Project - a bauxite mine producing up to 5 Mtpa, located in Cape York, with Port development and offshore shipping.
Approvals management, including mining lease applications, overlapping tenure and environmental authority amendment for Stanmore Coal Ltd's Isaac Plains East Project - an open cut coal mine producing 1.5 Mtpa.
Due diligence assessments incorporating tenement, land access, environmental and social constraints for a major coal mine acquisition in central Queensland and proposed resource projects in the Surat Basin and Bowen Basin.
Project EIS management for QCoal’s Byerwen Coal Project - an open cut and underground coal mine in the Bowen Basin with a 50 year life, producing 15 Mtpa, with $1.7 billion capital cost.
Project management for environmental and tenement (mining leases) approvals for Cuesta Coal’s Moorlands Project – an open cut coal mine in Queensland with a 30 year mine life producing 2 Mtpa.
EIS delivery for Stanmore’s The Range Project - an open cut coal mine in the Surat Basin with $1 billion capital cost and 25 year mine life.
Preparation of draft and supplementary EIS for the coal seam gas field and pipeline components of BG’s QCLNG Project, with a $10 billion capital cost and one of the three largest CSG developments in Australia. Petroleum tenement applications and input into engineering basis of design for the QCLNG Project..
Environmental authorities (EAs) for mining projects (QCoal’s Byerwen Project, Cuesta Coal’s Moorlands Project), multiple coal exploration companies (e.g. Carabella Resources, Cuesta Coal, Guildford Coal) and coal seam gas companies (QGC).
